why does ishmael take a linking to mambu?

Mambu is a boy that Ishmael meets at the Unicef camp. Like Ishmael, he had fought for the "army" forces. He is fierce and even kills boys from the rebel (R.U.F) side who are also at the Unicef camp. Ishmael feels like he could have fought beside Mambu in battle.
