The main use of technology in the novel, 1984, is control. Technology is used to control the citizenry, monitor the actions (all actions) of the populace.... in order words, technology is used to spy on and monitor each and every move. Privacy is virtually nonexistent.

Progress has stalled in terms of preserving history, as history is rewritten daily and the "truth" of history will never truly be known.
