The Snowman Irony

The Snowman Irony

The snowman

When the young unnamed boy rolls a snowball to make a statuesque pile of snow, he does not expect it to become a real human being. Ironically, when the young boy wakes up at night and looks outside his window, he sees a miracle because the statuesque slowly transforms into a human being and waves at him. The boy does not believe what he sees and goes outside to confirm. When he gets outside, he confirms his doubts because the Snowman can talk, walk and have an interactive engagement with him. Therefore, for the young boy, it is astonishing for the statuesque to gain life and become a wonderful companion for the night.

The cynical ending

After an adventurous night with Snowman, the narrator sleeps and leaves Snowman at his place outside. The narrator is very happy because, for the first time, he flew across the sky and the sea, and he enjoyed every place they toured. The narrator looks forward to another adventurous day the following day. Ironically, when he wakes up and heads straight outside to greet his magic man, he only finds melted ice, and his happiness and enthusiasm turn into sorrow.

The narrator’s parents

The narrator is sad after discovering that his friend is no longer alive but a pile of melted snow. The boy returns inside the house, looking gloomy, and sits next to his parents. Ironically, the parents do not bother to ask the boy why he is depressed to the extent of refusing to talk and eat. The reader expects the parents to be curious and inquire why their son's behavior has changed abruptly. Unfortunately, they take the boy's grief for granted.
