The Snowman Character List

The Narrator

The narrator is a young unnamed boy living with his parents. One day, the narrator runs outside the house after conversing with his mother. The boy starts rolling a snowball into a statue of a human being and puts a hat on him. After finishing making his statue, he goes inside to have tea with his parents. The boy again goes outside and makes a scarf around his snow statue. At night, the boy sleeps and leaves his snow statue outside near the garden near his bedroom window.

At night, the narrator looks outside through his window and sees the snowman waving at him. The boy slowly walks outside, and the snowman greets him. They get inside the house, and the boy shows him around. After finishing the house tour, the snowman takes the boys outside, and they fly across the sky and the sea. After exploring the night together, the snowman brings the boy back. The narrator gets inside to continue sleeping, leaving the snowman outside. When he wakes up the next day after the sun has risen, the snowman is no more, and what the boy sees is only a block of melted ice.

The Snowman

The snowman is a personified character who keeps the narrator company throughout the night. The snowman explores the narrator's house at night, and they have dinner together. The snowman says he loves the freezer when they enter the kitchen. The snowman loves the freezer beside the car when the narrator takes him into the garage. The boy returns to sleep when they part ways, and the snowman remains outside. The next day, the snowman melts into ice.

The Narrator’s parents

The narrator's parents are minor characters, and little is said about them. However, the narrator is seen conversing with his mother when he asks for permission to go outside. The narrator's mother also makes a hot beverage, which the narrator enjoys before proceeding with making his snow statue. The narrator's father is mentioned when the snowman tries on his clothes, tie, and glasses.
