Chapter 17 - Think and Explain - Page 334-335: 68

Answer

The very high pressure at the level of the ocean floor raises the boiling point for water to above $280^{\circ}C$. The water doesn’t boil, even though its temperature is much greater than the usual $100^{\circ}C$. This is the same principle behind a pressure cooker raising the boiling point of water.
