Chapter 3 - Section 3.4 - Energy - Questions and Problems - Page 69: 3.21

Answer

As the roller-coaster car climbs its potential energy is high and kinetic energy is low, and as the roller-coaster goes down the other side the kinetic energy is high and the potential energy is low.

Work Step by Step

Kinetic Energy is any object that is moving. Potential Energy is determined by the location of the object. As the roller-coaster is climbing towards the top, its potential energy continues to increase because its potential to change is increasing. When the cart reaches the top and begins to go down the hill, the potential energy becomes kinetic energy due to the increased movement of the cart.
