Chapter 7 - Section 7.1 - Tissues and Organs of the Skeletal System - Before You Go On - Page 205: 3

Answer

Flat bones - sternum, scapula, ribs, hip bones, and most cranial bones. Long bones - humerus, radius, ulna, femur, tibia, fibula, metacarpals, metatarsals, and phalanges of the hands and feet. Short bones - carpal bones, tarsal bones, and patella. Irregular bones - vertebrae and middle ear bones.

Work Step by Step

Flat bones are thin curved plates. Long bones are longer than they are wide and act as levers for movement. Short bones have about the same length as width. They provide limited gliding movements. Irregular bones include any bones that do not fit into the other categories.
