Hemophilias is a family of hereditary blood disorders characterized by deficiency or lack one clotting factor or another. Hemophilia A is due to a deficiency of clotting factor VIII; it is sex-linked, and occurs predominantly in males. Hemophilia B, also called Christmas Disease, is due to a deficiency of clotting Factor IX ; it is also sex linked--inherited only from mothers. Hemophilia C is autosomal, and is due to a deficiency of Factor IX. Its frequency is about equal in males and females
