Answer

This would prevent tears tears from draining into the lacrimal canals with resultant very watery eyes

Work Step by Step

Tears are secreted by lacrimal glands and cross the eye to lubricate the conjunctiva. Tears also serve to nourish the eyes an offer some protection against infections. Tears leave the tear glnds through excretory ducts. After lubricating the conjunctiva tears exit through small lacrimal pores ( lacrimal puncta ) in the eyelids and flow trough lacrimal canals( superior and inferior) to the lacrimal sac. Each lacrimal sac is drained by a nasolacrimal canal/duct which carries the excess tears into a nasal cavity. Blockage of the puncta would keep or nasolacrimal ducts would cause tears to accumulate in the eye , and result in watery eyes. Other signs that could result from blockage of lacrimal fluid drainage are impaired vision, red eyes, swollen eyes, and eye infections.
