The pineal gland is an endocrine gland that secretes the hormone melatonin. The habenula is situated on he dorsal side of the thalamus, and is embedded in the stria medullaris. It is a relay station for stimuli from the limbic system to the midbrain; it also mediates stress, anxiety and learning.
