Answer
In the embryogenic development of skeletal muscles, several stem cells, or myoblasts, fuse to form each myocyte ( muscle cell or myofiber). A skeletal muscle cell differentiates as a multinucleate structure because each myoblast contributes a nucleus to the differentiated mature myocyte.
Work Step by Step
Satellite cells are myoblasts that do not fully differentiate into myofibers during embryogenesis. They are usually located between the basal lamina and sarcolemma ( plasma membrane) of myofibers. These cells are mononucleated and multipotent. They appear to serve several purposes, but one vital function is to aid in repair of damaged muscle cells.
