The four mechanisms of heat loss from the skin are conduction, radiation, convection and evaporation. When warm blood reaches the skin, sweat glands pour out large amounts of sensible perspiration which evaporates from the outer surface of the epidermis. Because the latent heat of vaporization of water is high, this is a very important factor in maintaining temperature homeostasis of the body.
