Chapter 1 - Section 1.6 - Figure 1.8 - Positive Feedback in Childbirth - Page 17: 1

Answer

Fig1.8 Yes . One could say that pregnancy activates a series of events that lead to childbirth

Work Step by Step

Negative feedback resists change from a set point -- change that goes outside a normal range. In contrast, positive feedback amplifies change. Negative feedback loops function in the menstrual cycle, in body temperature regulation, and in the control of blood pressure. In pregnancy negative feedback loops operates to control GnrH secretion with the effect that progesterone secretion is maintained and estrogen secretion is kept low. The effect of this control mechanism is the uterine retention of the conceptus/fetus to term. A positive feedback loop operates powerfully during the later stages of labor to ensure expulsion of the fetus. Lactation is also influenced by positive feedback loops.
