Objective:

Students will make use of poetic and literary devices to write an "I Am From" poem shaped by their identity and experiences.

Structure:

Throughout Sister Outsider, Audre Lorde emphasizes that the "personal is political" and shares many elements of her identity. Moreover, in "Poetry is Not a Luxury" she calls on women to harness their poetry--their inner feelings, the things that they have yet to name, as a form of power.
