Liza spares no words to describe her tender feelings for Erast; she is generous on expressions that come from her heart. Her love is tender and pure, her love is sincere and innocent. Nonetheless, the world around is too cruel to accept this kind of love and let poor girl be happy.

Liza and Erast’s relationship became closer than one might suspect, she gave herself fully for him, she felt even happier, but Erast has changed: Liza was not longer an object of purity for him and he started to lose his interest in her. So the author means that when all desires are fulfilled there is nothing left for curiosity, a person has nothing to crave for, and when it concerns love it is even harder, as it proves that it was not true love.

After learning that Erast was going to marry another woman, Liza felt terrible. She was simply unconscious of what was happening about her; she was devastated. Only now she understood how awful her mistake was, but nothing could have been changed, so she found comfort in death.
