Midnight Traveler Summary

Taliban, a terror group has put a bounty on Hassan Fazili’s head. Fazili’s family has sought asylum in various countries including Tajikistan, Serbia, Hungary, Iran, and Turkey. The documentary starts with Nargis, Fazili’s older daughter, playing with her baby sister, Zahra. The family has been deported from Tajikistan, where they have been living for over a year. Fazili is driving back to Afghanistan, where they are required to stay briefly before moving to another country. Nargis looks tired. Fazili and his family join other refugees on the Turkish border. Fazili and his wife, Fatima Hussaini record themselves with mobile phones.

When Fazili and his family get back to Afghanistan after deportation, they decide to move toward Europe. In the documentary, the family can be seen traveling with other refugees. On a certain night, the refugees can be seen crossing the Turkish border moving to Bulgaria. Here, they are confronted by law enforcement officers who take them to refugee camps. From Bulgaria, they move to Serbia. Finally, they approved to move to Hungary. Fazili and his family walk along dangerous zones. For instance, in Bulgaria, there is a gang of people terrorizing refugees. The moments displayed in the documentary are shocking.

Just like any other refugees, the Fazilis are forced to endure hardships like sleeping on grounds and fighting off racism subjected to them. The documentary inspires audiences by showing how the Fazilis were courageous to find a better life. People should be determined to live a good life free of threats and intimidation. Midnight Traveler is a documentary that shows the hardships experienced by refugees as they seek asylum in different countries.
