Because Everyman is such a short work, it should be useful for the students to read it both in Middle English, to emphasize the exoticism of the text and properly situate it in its historical milieu, and in modern English, to help them feel connected to the text and make it feel more readable.

Everyman is somewhat stilted, but it is a play and students should read it aloud in class to get the full impact.
