Relationship to Other Books

One book that might also be useful for teaching different aspects of medieval literature is Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales. These stories focus on character and coincidence rather than the very flat characterizations of Everyman, and thus provide a contrast. Students could be assigned different Canterbury Tales to read as short supplementary assignments. Pilgrim's Progress is another contemporary example of a religious allegorical text.
