Joan

Joan is the protagonist of the story. The story opens when Joan searches for her husband, Victor, who has been puzzlingly missing for over a year. Joan and her husband had a quarrel about their land, and he left inexplicably and never returned. Joan knows she still loves her husband despite their argument about land.

Joan is grieving and traumatized because she does not know the fate of her husband. Joan's close-knit family tells her to move on and leave Victor alone, but she is determined to find him. However, the search is not easy because of disappointments and various obstacles Joan has to go through. One day, she finds a man she believes is Victor, but she is disappointed when the man fails to recognize her.

Victor Beasolei

Victor is the husband of Joan, and he curiously goes missing for several days. After disagreeing with his wife, he decided to disappear from her life. However, Victor failed to comprehend the suffering and grief he left behind for his wife when he decided to disappear.

Thomas Heiser

Thomas Heiser is the church backer where Eugene Wolff ministers. Nevertheless, Heiser is notorious because he engages in shoddy business deals. Many innocent clients have lost their property to Heiser and his colleagues in the business. Heiser symbolizes the corrupt corporate world in Canada.

Cecil

Cecil is a victim of corrupt business deals conducted by characters such as Heiser and his accomplices. Cecil lost a huge junk of her property to shoddy business deals.

Eugene Wolff

Eugene Wolff is the preacher Joan believes to be Victor. When Joan hears Victor's voice from inside the tent, she enters to confirm if it is her husband. According to Joan, the man preaching is Victor but in a suit; this time, he has short hair. Paradoxically, the preacher says he knows nothing about Victor, and his name is Pastor Eugene Wolff. Joan is left disappointed but optimistic that Victor will come to his sense and return home.

Joan’s mother

Joan’s mother is a matriarch and strong businessperson. She strictly observes the communal culture and traditions. The mother raises Joan and her brother strictly reminding them of family values and societal expectations when they grow up.
