Ella Enchanted Metaphors and Similes

Ella Enchanted Metaphors and Similes

Like a grasshopper (Simile)

Ella's Mother’s death is a very difficult period for Ella. Father asks her to wear a black dress, but Ella puts on mother’s favorite green dress. Her mother said that this dress flatters Ella’s eyes. Ella thinks that she looks “like a grasshopper in the spicy green dress”, because she is a skinny and tall girl with straight hair in green.

Like a china doll (Simile)

The dress which was sewn for Ella’s birthday was better. The head housemaid Bertha sewn a beautiful gown for Ella. The dress was blue with a white sash. Ella looked “like a china doll in it”, because she was small for her age and had red cheeks and a white tape in her dark hair, indicating her cute persona.

My sun (Metaphor)

Over the span of the fairy tale, the reader may notice that Mandy calls Ella “my sun”. As it is known, the sun is a star of the solar system, but here the author uses a metaphor. “My sun” means a gentle treatment or affectionate attitude. Since Mandy loves Ella and always protects her from Ella’s stepmother, she calls her “my sun”, which means lovely or sweetie.
