Creative Writing

Objective:

To analyze the text closely, and use creative art forms to communicate deeper understandings of the way ideas and settings relate in literature.

Common Core Standards:

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.11-12.9

Structure:

Have students study the art of haiku.

Have them closely read the section in which the characters discuss and speak in haiku.

Ask them to critique and analyze what characters say.

Using what they have learned, have students write haikus to demonstrate their impressions of theme, setting, and language in the novel.
