Coriolanus is often classed with Shakespeare's other "Roman" plays, such as Julius Caesar and Antony and Cleopatra; the teacher can use students' familiarity with these texts to provide scaffolding for their reading. Equally, most texts related to ancient mythology, literature and history (especially Plutarch's Parallel Lives) can be used in connection with the play. Finally, the tragic elements of Shakespeare's Coriolanus bear comparison with his other, more famous tragedies, such as Macbeth and King Lear.
