Class Act Irony

Class Act Irony

The Paradox of Mr. Roche

Mr. Roche is a white teacher in Riverdale School. Unlike other whites, Mr. Roche does not entertain racism, and he encourages black students to compete favorably with their white counterparts. Similarly, Mr. Roche encourages Drew to be an ambassador of the unfunded visiting school to promote diversity. Therefore, the actions of Mr. Roche are well-intentioned, which contradicts the expectations of the people around him.

Liam

Liam is a privileged white student who comes from a wealthy family. Ironically, despite coming from a privileged family, Liam shares most of his interests with black students like drew and Jordan. For instance, during his thanksgiving, Liam invites Drew and Jordan, among other black students, to his home to have fun and enjoy delicious foods.

Andy’s personality

The central antagonist of First Kid is Andy, who comes from a privileged and economically empowered family. Andy feels entitled to everything, and he controls and bullies all students around him. Paradoxically, Andy's individuality disarray is challenged by Drew. Besides being a bully, Andy is a systematic racist but Drew teaches him a lesson he will never forget.
