Check, Please!: #Hockey Summary

Check, Please!: #Hockey introduces readers to Eric "Bitty" Bittle, a freshman at Samwell University who came from Georgia to go to college and play hockey. When not playing hockey, Bitty is a prolific (and talented) figure skater and a prolific baker. At first glance, he is the stereotypical Southern gentleman, which works against him when he plays hockey, which is a naturally violent and unkind sport.

As Bitty starts his journey with the Samwell Men's Hockey team, he starts to meet the other young men on his team, many of whom are diverse and colorful. One of his teammates who draws most of his attention is Jack Zimmermann, who is the son of a legendary NHL player. While Jack is a senior, Bitty is a freshman, leading to a mentor-mentee relationship between the two young men. At first, they are awkward with each other; however, they start to grow closer.

Meanwhile, Bitty continues to put out his personal vlog. He thinks the blog is a sort of catharsis and gives people a window into his life and thought process. Most significantly, these vlogs reveal Blitty's sexuality and his struggles with coming to terms with it.

Over time, Jack and Blitty cultivate a very strong relationship, which ultimately deepens into a romantic relationship. However, their relationship threatens to complicate Jack's life. Jack has not come out to his parents (or the public) yet, making him fearful of any potential blowback he may experience, especially given his desire to pursue a professional hockey career. Although the two love each other, their relationship is complicated by Jack being closeted in a very homophobic sport.

After Bitty overcomes some of his fears associated with hockey and becomes a better player, his team starts to win many games and several championships. The two young men revel in those games. And as Jack moves closer to his graduation date, Jack's impending adult responsibilities threaten to complicate their relationship even more. The story ends and is continued in a second entry in the series.
