Objective:

Students will observe how the same event can be interpreted and presented in two very different ways.

Common Core Standards:

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.11-12.7

Structure:

Divide students into pairs or small groups. Within each group, half of the students will prepare a summary of news reports in the immediate aftermath of the Hiroshima bombing from the Americans, while the other half will prepare reports from the Japanese perspective. Students should be able to find archived newspaper articles from both countries using the Internet.
