    Why does Maggie feel "like a cat on a hot tin roof"? What does the image describe?

    A cat on a hot tin roof, students should understand, is stuck in a precarious and painful position. It can't get off the roof without hurting its feet more, but it also hurts to stay on the hot tin. Maggie is in a precarious position. She has no money of her own, which makes it incredibly risky for her to divorce Brick, but Brick hates her because she slept with his best friend, and so her marriage is miserable. It hurts to remain where she is, in her marriage to Brick, but it might be even more painful and damaging to leave it.
