Broken April Lesson Plan

Relationship to Other Books

It's fairly unlikely that students will have read any works of Albanian literature before. However, they can build off of experiences with literature published in the Eastern Bloc during the Cold War (such as Czesław Miłosz, Václav Havel, etc.). Additionally, as Ismail Kadare has been plain about some of his more Westerly literary influences (viz. Shakespeare's Macbeth, Stevenson's Treasure Island, and Dante's The Divine Comedy), all of these can be used as scaffolds for discussion as well.
