    Compare the Anna we see in Chapter 10 with the Anna we see in the later chapters of Part 7?

    On one level, the poised confident, impressive Anna in chapter ten sharply contrasts with the destructive madwoman we see in later chapters . However, even in chapter ten, readers may pick up on clues that all is not well with Anna. For example:

    • Anna appears to be trying too hard to impress Levin.
    • Her dedication to her projects (her book, the English girl, etc.) appears obsessive, particularly since this is the first we have heard of these pursuits.
    • Anna's lack of interest in her own daugther is made even more obvious by her interest in this young English girl.
