The varsity jacket
The narrator’s description of the varsity jackets depicts a sense of site. Hearing
The sense of hearing is depicted when Sung yells questions loudly to catch the narrator’s attention. The narrator says,” At first, I tried to ignore him, but that made him yell his questions in a loud, overly articulated voice.” The narrator and Sung are competitors in the school’s quiz bowl team, and he tries to intimidate him with difficult questions. Whenever the narrator tries to ignore Sung’s questions, he becomes aggressive and yells to ensure everyone listens to the narrator’s answers.
The final pre-Indianapolis practice
To paint a picture of dissatisfaction, the narrator describes the atmosphere in the training room. The narrator says, “When I arrived ten minutes late to our final Indianapolis practice, Mr. Philips looked concerned, Damien looked indifferent, Sung looked flustered and angry, Frances looked flustered, Gordon looked angry, and Wes looked distracted by whatever game he was playing on his phone.” The room’s atmosphere shows that the players are unwilling to participate in the practice because each has a unique reason.
