The world has been overrun with "mad zombie disease", leaving people fearing they will be next to turn into a zombie.
Columbus, a geeky college student, is encountered by an aggressive zombie killer, known as Tallahassee, who recruits him on his travels. On their way, they meet two sisters, Wichita and Little Rock, who end up conning them and stealing their car. They engage in a conflict but decide to work as a team to avoid becoming a zombie instead.
Wichita and Little Rock reveal that the Pacific Playland amusement park in Los Angeles, is a zombie-free sanctuary, which they all agree to travel to. On the journey, Columbus and Wichita begin to develop feelings for each other.
However, once they arrive to the amusement park, the zombies are attracted to all the lights and rides. Columbus and Tallahassee save the girls from becoming zombies and they manage to escape from the park. In the end, they form their own family and agree to continue finding a zombie-free land.
