    The International Vocabulary

    Kind of Activity:

    Artistic Response

    Objective:

    Students will analyticially and creatively engage with the reading's vocabulary, and will use this exploration to broaden their understanding of the text.

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.9-10.4

    Structure:

    Begin the exercise with a discussion of Zimbabwe's history, in particular discussing the legacy of colonialism. Note the tensions between people of African and of European descent who are living in modern Zimbabwe. The students will then do individual writing at their desks. Ask them to choose any three of the lesson's thirteen vocabulary words. Give them 5-10 minutes to write...
