Trust Background

Trust Background

Trust is a novel that was written by Hernan Diaz in 2022 and published by Riverhead Books. This book is about money, wealth, status, the role of women in this process, love and madness. That’s why The Washington Post and The New York Times called Trust one of the “10 best books in 2022,” that’s why it was longlisted for the 2022 Booker Prize and won the Kirkus Prize. The book was also recognized as one of “the best books of 2022” by Esquire and The New Yorker.

Trust is four stories in various stages of completion in one volume. Each story tells about the biography of an American tycoon from its unique perspective. He made a fortune in the stock market before and during Great Depression. These four stories are a novel within novel, an autobiography written by a ghostwriter, a story about the same ghostwriter and an excerpt from the diary. Each part of Trust complements the previous one, leading the story on the right path and steering it in the new direction.

At the same time, the author perfectly plays with directions in the literature. Diaz starts with realism and moves on to modernism at the end of the book.
