Trance

Joan Macleod writes, “JHANA is dancing full out to loud, early Elvis music. Eventually she sits and begins rocking back and forth in a trance-like manner” (Act 1, Scene 1). The trance is emblematic of Jhana’s mental incapacitation which Macleod elucidates in “Author’s note.”

Pills

While “role playing Priscilla” Bill asks, “ Elvis? How many of those pills did you take? You hear me? Are you sick honey?” (Act 1, Scene 1). The pills are emblematic of illnesses. Their inclusion in the role playing confirm that Jhana is required to take pills owing to her condition.

“Life skills”

Bill asserts, “So it’s the same old crowd.Lots of old friends there. Right? And life skills is valuable stuff” (Act 1, Scene 1). Bill’s remark infers that it is vital for Jhana to master socialization abilities such as communication that could aid her to intermingle comfortably with her associates.
