An old dollhouse

Consequently, Miranda's family is never haunted by the past. In an intriguing twist, Miranda uses the key to open the attic and finds Dorothy alive. Dorothy’s mother locked her in the attic in the 19th century and told people she died in a train accident.

The 1904 calendar in the kitchen symbolizes the chronology of past events in Miranda's new house. When Miranda starts seeing the past events in their house, she sees a calendar in the kitchen dated 1904. Consequently, the calendar proves indeed people occupied their new houses in the last two centuries.
