Those are quite a few questions. I'll take your first one but encourage you to read the story or check out this site for further detail. I'll list it in the source link below. The woman is depressed. Her physician husband thinks that she needs a vacation of rest. It is hinted that the woman recently gave birth to a child; her sickness might now be called postpartum depression.
