The famous lines introducing Meursault's mother open the novel. He is not sure whether she had died today or yesterday since the telegram was not specific. Furthermore he does not really think it matters. He asks for two days off and takes the bus to the home he had put his mother in when he could no longer afford to take care of her. He sleeps on the way there. At the home, Meursault meets the director and the caretaker and is taken to see his mother. He chooses not to look at her and sits by her side as friends come to mourn during the night. He chats with the caretaker, naps, smokes, and has some coffee. how do meursalts and his bosss' comment demonstrate the fact that meursault is an existentialast and the boss is not

chapter 3 opens with an akward conversation between meursault and his boss . In this conversation the boss inquires about mamans age and then comments that boss seemed to be relieved that the matter of mamans death is closed

how does shooting 4 additional bullets into the Arab jive with him living and operating from a life of indifference? He is making an affirmative action. Yes, he may have taken one path or another, but once there....

this is still the most perplexing aspect for me. I have read several analysis' of this and still cannot get a satisfactory answer. The sun made me do it isn't enough for 1 shot---hesitation, then 4 more shots.
