In Oscar Wilde’s story, “The Sphinx without the Secret”, the unnamed narrator relates the story about encountering an old friend while he is visiting Paris. This is the first level of the story. The old friend, Lord Murchison, proceeds to tell the narrator about his experiences with a woman named Lady Alroy. The latter is the second level of the story. The story told by Murchison is, therefore, a private conversation between the two male characters. In this conversation they spend much of it discussing Lady Alroy. Based upon a close analysis of the following extract, write an essay of 1000-1200 words in which you discuss how objective or subjective their perspectives of her are:
