"The Sphinx Without a Secret" and Other Stories Background

The Sphinx Without a Secret and Other Stories is a collection of stories written by Oscar Wilde. The stories are all comical and mysterious. The single tales were originally published in 1887 by a magazine called “The Court and Society Review” and “The World”. It was then republished as a collection in 1891. The most recent version was published in 2009 by HarperCollins Publishers.

This collection has also been called Lord Arthur Savile’s Crime and Other Stories, after one of the other stories in the collection. The name of the collection depends on which language and country the book is sold in. The original collection consists of four stories; The Sphinx Without a Secret, The Model Millionaire, The Canterville Ghost and Lord Arthur Savile’s Crime, though The Portrait of Mr. W.H has been added in later editions.

Oscar Wilde was an Irish poet and author. He died November 30th in Paris, after he had written a number of novels, short-stories and poems. There has been both music and film adaptions based and inspired by Oscar Wilde’s books. The Sphinx Without a Secret has an average rating of 3.46 on Goodreads.
