The Shallows Irony

The Shallows Irony

The Irony of Constant Connection

The internet, mobile technology, and social media have made it ridiculously easy to connect with one another and to stay connected. These connections however are often based upon carefully staged and meticulously created social media “personas” that may or may not be indicative of the person’s true condition, only what the person wants to reveal, thus these connections are often shallow and/or transactional in nature.

The Irony of “Smart Devices”

The “smart devices” were intended to improve the quality of life of humanity by serving as a mobile assistant and doing the more mundane tasks for humanity, theoretically freeing up a person’s time and “mental burden” leaving them free to pursue, again, theoretically, endeavors that would enrich and benefit them. Instead however humanity finds itself becoming more and more dependent upon smart devices as they did not foresee a side effect of all the convenience it has brought upon them. Over the years attention spans shortened and the ability of humans to focus and remember had been compromised.

The Irony of A.I. Interaction

A.I.’s have become increasingly more complex over the years and they are now capable of levels of interaction with humans previously unheard of. These interactions however, despite the complexity or the relative “warmth” or “intelligence” these elaborate programs display they are at best an intricate mimicry of human emotions and will never replace human interactions.

The Irony of Artificial Intelligence

Although A.I.’s have manifold applications that would greatly benefit humanity the creation and development of A.I. technology is also approached with great caution as there are also threats that could arise from its development. A.I. tech is, at the very core of it, disruptive technology, and humanity is only just starting to see how much it can change the lives of people.

The Irony of Tech Development Outpacing Human Development

Technology has began to develop at an even more rapid pace since the dawn of the digital age. Presently, technology continues to evolve into forms and applications that had previously just been seen in science fiction, humanity however is at a developmental impasse, quite possibly even regressing as the author theorizes, because of his reliance upon the internet at smart devices.
