The Music of Bees Irony

The Music of Bees Irony

Jake’s father

Jake is a paraplegic teenager full of anxiety and hopelessness. Jake was involved in an accident that destabilized his life in all aspects. When Alice accidentally collides with Jake while carrying honeybees in her pickup truck, she learns of the unfortunate events surrounding Jake. Alice decides to take Jake to his home. Alice meets Jake's abrasive father, who does not care for his son's welfare. Alice is shocked that Jake's father does not care about helping his son to recover because she would expect a father to care for his son. That he does not is ironic. Therefore, Alice invites Jake to her home, where he learns to take care of bees and excels in everything he does.

Harry’s application

Harry knows that he has a dark history in the small town of Oregon, and he does not have any hope of finding a job. Harry has a criminal record, and everyone in the town knows. Since the death of his uncle, Harry has been homeless, and most of the time, he sleeps hungry. Therefore, Harry knows that getting a job is the most difficult thing to happen in his life, but he decides to apply when he sees Alice's advertisement for a part-time job on the Honeybee farm. When Alice receives the application, she offers Harry a chance to work on her farm. Therefore, Harry's opportunity to get a job is a miracle because the entire town knows he does not have a chance of working anywhere. When Harry gets his job, he subverts expectations by working very hard and becomes the best beehive maker that Alice has ever met. This is ironic because no one expected him to be so talented.

Leaders

The leaders in Oregon town are ironic characters. Instead of ensuring the safety of the people, they accept bribes from a nefarious pesticide company to operate against the set environmental standards. The company is a threat to Alice’s bees and other living organisms in the area. However, leaders are comfortable with the company’s operations because they have been given bribes. Consequently, leaders do the contrary when they prioritize their interests above the residents they are supposed to represent.
