Students should analyze his behavior in the country, his decision to resort to crime, and his decision to work as a scab. Some may argue that while he starts the novel off with integrity and concern for others, he becomes weak-minded and resorts to stealing, drinking, and taking prostitutes - things that reflect his true character.
