The Indian in the Cupboard Imagery

Longhouse

Lynne Reid Banks depicts Little Bear's development of Omri's room into his ideal home. She does so using imagery of what he builds and how he builds it over time.

Art

Banks presents the scene in which the figures accompany Omri to art class using imagery as Boone draws an intricate picture of his environment on the frontier. His art is shown to be small on the canvas, and his method of drawing is shown using imagery as well. In fact, Banks vividly describes the pencil he uses.

Floorboards

At one point, a mouse escapes and moves about the crawl space beneath Omri's floorboards. His observation of the floorboards provides auditory, tactile, and visual information about the scene; Banks' imagery strengthens the suspense of a predator much larger than the action figures.

Toy Store

After school, Omri and Patrick race to the toy store in order to observe the bins of figurines before other students arrive. Banks develops imagery to convey the size of the store; this imagery is mostly focused on the configurations and contents of the bins.
