The End of Drum-Time (2023) is an opulent and impressive chronicle that explores the ramifications of an outrageous 19th-century love affair involving the Lutheran church minister's daughter and an adolescent Sámi Reindeer cowman. The complex love between the minister's daughter and the herder occurs in the Arctic Circle. The narrative occurs in 1851 after Lars Levi, the Lutheran church minister, is sent to preach the word of God in the Arctic Circle, mostly inhabited by sparsely populated Sámi reindeer herders. The herders have strong traditional beliefs, making it almost impossible to believe the new religion introduced by Lars. While living in the Arctic Circle, Lars' daughter starts a love affair with a youthful Sámi herder. The subservient daughter starts to defy her father's orders to pursue love.

The End of Drum-Time (2023) was widely accepted after its publication. According to Kirkus Review, The End of Drum-Time (2023) is a go-getting, reverberating, brilliant, mesmerizing, and poignant novel that is magnificently written and consummately researched. Publishers Weekly argues that Pylväinen’s The End of Drum-Time (2023) creates an image of time with an alluring assortment of characterization from different religious beliefs and cultural backgrounds. The Booklist says that The End of Drum-Time (2023) is a fascinating piece of literature that explores the complex themes of religion and culture.
