    Caderousse’s Mock Trial

    Kind of Activity:

    Role Play

    Objective:

    Students will analyze the motives and actions of a particular character in the context of justice, a major theme of the novel

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.CCRA.R.3, CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.CCRA.W.1

    Structure:

    Break students into groups of 6.

    Each student in the group should be assigned a relevant role (for instance: Caderousse, Caderousse's lawyer, prosecuting lawyer, Danglars, Dantes, Old Dantes). Students should have time to review the text to prepare their evidence and point of view. To save class time, this might be done for homework.
