In this story, a boy is at home alone while his mother is out, and has been asked to shovel the driveway. Although this begins like a normal day, the Cat in the Hat visits, promising the same destruction and chaos as in the first book.
Firstly, the cat interrupts the boy's chores, transferring the mess from the drive to other objects in the house. Helping him are his friends who are also cats. Although they are destructive, in the end, they manage to clean everything up and even help the boy with his original chores.
