The Boy in the Suitcase Background

The Boy in the Suitcase Background

The Boy in the Suitcase is the first of the Nina Borg series written by Danish authors Lene Kaaberbol and Agnete Friis. The book introduces the titular character of the series, Nina Borg, and chronicles her experience with a mysterious baby boy trapped in a suitcase.

The plot of The Boy in the Suitcase is rather sinister. Nina Borg is a Red Cross nurse and mother of two who is very altruistic. Her friend Karin mysteriously gives her a key to a public locker in a Copenhagen train station, inside of which she finds a suitcase. The suitcase contains something shocking: a three-year old boy, drugged, but alive. Nina must decide what to do with this unknown child, while forces are trying to hunt both of them down.

The Boy in the Suitcase enjoyed modest success. Critics and readers praised its fast-paced narrative and engaging storyline. The book was succeeded by three other novels: Invisible Murder (2012), Death of a Nightingale (2013), and The Considerate Killer (2016).
