The headset has two different polarizers in each glass of the glasses, such that the left glass is polarized one way and the other glass is polarized perpendicular to the that glass. Therefore, one source of light will shine into one eye while the other source will shine into the other eye. This difference in perspective between what both eyes see will cause a sense of perceived depth, or 3D.
