The two rings cannot be in the same plane because there would be too much steric hindrance if they were, the molecule would be unstable. So, a staggered conformation should be drawn. Rotate one of the rings so that it lies perpendicular to the plane of the page. One of the rings will be on the plane that goes into the page. The side of the ring that is closer to us will have wedges because it is coming out toward us. The substituent on the side that is further will have a dash because it is going away from us.
