Chapter 10 - Structure and Synthesis of Alcohols - Problems - Page 436: Problem 10-7 d

Answer

2,2-difluoropropan-1-ol

Work Step by Step

The presence of electron withdrawing halogens makes the corresponding ion more stable. 2,2-difluoropropan-1-ol is more acidic than 2,2-dichloropropan-1-ol because it has fluorine. Fluorine is more electronegative than chlorine as a result it withdraws electrons more strongly than chlorine, resulting in a more stable compound and thus better acidity.
