Chapter 17 - Radioactivity and Nuclear Chemistry - Exercises - Questions - Page 636: 3

Answer

Henri Becquerel gave the name "uranic rays" to the radiation that Uranium crystals gave off. Upon experimenting with these rays, Becquerel noticed that they were capable of releasing rays that were powerful enough to leave impressions on the photographic plate. When he repeated the study with other Uranium salts, he was able to deduce that radioactivity is a definite characteristic of Uranium.
